To make it look more appealing in My Opinion :)~. With function and purpose as well with slots made for intake of air and circulate that incoming air to the car's intake system, like Cobra's and SS Camero's hoods do, all pro racing cars do and so on. With a J-Spec 99 Z emblem to had that stock touch of class back to the car's appeal and to taper off some of that aggressive look as some see it and think more along the lines of " Wow that car looks tough as hell ". Trans AM's did it with there Ram Air hoods and they even had those kinda hoods back in the 70's on there Firebirds as well. The louvered panels are the same, just going by what appeals to that person taste. The Stock panel is made for the stock air box system. Air is only divert threw the air box by it's stock channels. Take the box away and add a Pop charger and now you have a 360 degree of channeling, which is where the aftermarket panels come from in there design. This is really old news, like 10 years old if you read old Stillen catalogs on these parts. But again, not rocket science :) When it comes to your car, try and make a sound judgment on your own personal taste and not really by what others think. It's your car, you know what feels good to you. :)
